4 November 2009: 3rd UAVS Industry Day and Mini-Conference at British Antarctic Survey

uavsassociationgroupphot14 members and 24 others delegates attended UAVS's 3rd Industry Day of 2009 at British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge.  The visit was transformed into a mini-conference with the title "UAS Operations in Antarctica".  British Antarctic Survey flew a new UAS in Antarctica in 2007 and is looking to extend the use of UAS in this region.  The mini-conference addressed the research that will be conducted, the opportunities for UAS suppliers both for experimental and operational flying and the likely impact of future regulation on such operations both in the UK and Antarctica.

9 July 2009: 2nd UAVS Industry Day at QinetiQ

9 members attended the second UAVS Industry Day of 2009 this time at QinetiQ in Farnborough.  QinetiQ provided an insight to its aspirations for its Zephyr UAS after some successful test flights in the US.

25 February 2009: 1st UAVS Industry Day at Thales Aerospace

26 members attended the first UAVS Industry Day of 2009 at Thales Aerospace at Crawley to hear about the latest developments on the Watchkeeper Programme.

31 December 2008: Founder Member Geoff Salkeld retires after 10 years as the Association's Treasurer1stcouncil

On 31 December 2008 Mr Geoff Salkeld stepped down as the Association's Treasurer.  Mr Salkeld was one of three original founder members of UAVS and the tenants he believed in 1998 regarding the safe, integrated and effective use of UAS in controlled airspace still hold true today.  As a retirement gift he asked simply for a commemmorative collage of photographs from the first and the most recent Council Meetings to hang in pride of place in his workshop at home.collage

 

 

2 October 2008: Commemorative Dinner for David Barnes, UAVS' retiring Chairmandbarnes

dhb_dec_sOn Thursday 2 October 2008 the new Chairman, Mr Gary Clayton, and the Council entertained the retiring Chairman, Mr David Barnes, at a Commemorative Dinner held at the Royal Air Force Club in Piccadilly, London.

The after-dinner speech was given by Mr Simon Jewell.

The Association presented Mr Barnes with a suitably engraved 'RAF Decanter' commemorating his 3 years Chairmanship of the Association.

19 August 2008: New Chairman of the Council Inaugurated

gcMr Gary Clayton formally took over the Chairmanship of the UAVS Council and the directorship of the operating company on 19 August 2008 at a small ceremony in Bristol.
