eurousc_wpThe European UAV Systems Centre (EuroUSC) was formed in March 2003 and gained its Qualified Entity status from the UK CAA (DAI/9932/09) in 2009.

Under its umbrella Light UAS Scheme, EuroUSC provides independent design, construction and operational competency assessment of light Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) along with a company approval programme that covers manufacturers, distributors, operators and flight schools.  EuroUSC is also approved to carry out functional assessment of flight control software.  Assessments are accepted by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) without further investigation.

EuroUSC’s main objectives are the enabling of key infrastructure elements for the development of civil UAS applications.  The key advance in 2011 has been the launch of the Ground School Course for the Basic National UAS Certificate for Small Unmanned Aircraft (BNUC-S™) to compliment the well established BNUC-S Flight Test that has is now the CAA's preferred UAS qualification.

The BNUC-S is part of a wider scheme for Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) operations and compliments work carried out since 2005 by EuroUSC on civil BLOS operations.

The Light UAS Scheme is now fully operational in the UK and is already being prototyped in other European countries.  It provides an excellent platform for the management of the introduction of light UAS and tackles, in a cost effective way, the early stage problems faced by the light UAS industry.

EuroUSC constantly updates its practices based on the most current work of the UK CAA, EASA, EUROCAE and ICAO, providing an up to date practical approach for regulators and industry alike.
