Data Protection and Privacy
The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) has provided guidance for the UAS industry based on the requirements placed on the CCTV industry. The principals of this approach have now been agreed across the EU and the guidance can be found below.
The ICO regulates the processing of personal data and has produced a Guide to Data Protection to help data controllers understand how to be compliant with the principles of the Act. This covers responsibilities such as ensuring that people are aware that their data is being processed and keeping the data securely.
Professional operators of UAS with cameras may be taking photographs of individuals and this activity is likely to be covered by the Data Protection Act.
The ICO has recently updated its CCTV code which contains specialist guidance about UAS.
Both the CCTV Code and the Guide to Data Protection have been loaded in to the Library for your convenience and can be found below. Also included are the new guidelins from the European Commission.
The ICO has also provided some information aimed at the hobbist market that does promote and explain good practice. If you want to read this it can be found Here
For more information, see the ICO website or call their helpline on 0303 123 1113.
